Lee Buchanan, Student Services Coordinator
You can’t ask for a more dedicated, compassionate and skilled professional than Lee Buchanan, whose roots with Westbridge Academy stretch back to the school’s founding in 1973. While she left to raise her family, Lee came back in the early 1990s and has been here ever since.
In her current capacity as Student Services Coordinator, Lee has an important part to play in each student’s success. As she explains, “It’s my job to generate a dialogue with parents and school district representatives to make sure that our students are getting the best and most from us.”
An experienced social worker herself, Lee manages the delicate work of coordinating the members of each student’s team – parents, teachers, clinicians, administrators, and Child Study Team representatives - to yearly assess and review the student’s progress toward achieving the goals of his or her Individualized Educational Plan (IEP).
Whether she is scheduling re-evaluations, conferring with Child Study Team members, or leading the Annual Review Conferences, Lee is invested in communicating to parents and districts how our unique resources and approach are meeting the needs of their students.
Recognizing that a successful transition from school to adult life is vital for our students, Lee is also working closely with Westbridge Academy’s Occupational Exploration/Transition Planning Coordinator to augment and strengthen this aspect of our curriculum. By viewing Transition Planning as a collaborative process, she is easily able to integrate it meaningfully into the Annual Review Conference. Lee has been a strong advocate for each student from day one and we’re glad she is.
