Sometimes, stumbling blocks can become stepping stones. That is what happened for Tiona, one of Westbridge Academy’s hard-working 4th graders! Although remote instruction could have been an obstacle, Tiona rose to the challenge.
“She stayed connected and focused on her academics,” said Catherine White, Curriculum Specialist. “Since remote instruction began, she has vastly increased her attendance and participation in all subject areas. Twice a week, she met with our reading specialist to work on improving her reading skills using multisensory strategies. Now, she is more motivated and enthusiastic about reading across all content areas. When asked what book she recommends to others, Tiona suggests Dinosaurs Before Dark from the Magic Tree House Series.
In addition to her academic gains, Tiona has used Westbridge Academy’s “seamless network of support” to build on her positive and healthy relationships with staff. She continues to improve her ability to connect her thoughts, feelings, and actions and has developed self-awareness and social awareness. She is using more effective problem-solving strategies and expressing herself appropriately when interacting with others.
