When Art Teacher, Alice Juliano introduced her students – mostly teen boys – to the work of French Impressionist Edgar Degas, she was ready for some resistance. Juliano got creative, and the student work is stunning.
This year, Westbridge Academy approached the event with a sense of fun and purpose. The school hosted a classroom door decoration contest that was scored by guest judges. Three authors, Kristine Lombardi, Henry Neff, and Jacqueline Resnick, came to the school to read to students
Students at Westbridge Academy celebrated National Read Scross America Day by joining members of our local community to celebrate by reading together!
Ryan was just 5 years old when he started at Westbridge Academy. Jessica recalls how Westbridge stepped in right away; they assisted in managing his outbursts, creating a quiet, safe environment, and providing support services.
The journey to graduation day begins early, and for students at Westbridge Academy, it includes a “thesis” unlike any other. As freshmen, high school students embark on “My Journey,” a writing project that spans across four years inspired by the New Jersey Department of Education’s Dare to Dream Conference.
Judges have selected four students from Westbridge Academy as winners in the 2018 ASAH Art Contest. Students produced winning artwork to celebrate this year’s theme of special education week, "Working Together to Build a Special Future for All."
Fitness Friday is an innovative new program designed to engage students in building strength, both inside and out. Offered to middle and high school students as part of the physical education curriculum, the program allows teens to plan personal fitness goals, and use the school’s new fitness room to achieve them.
This fall, School Principal, Dr. Anthony Hadzimichalis brought the entire staff together - classroom teachers, clinical staff, aides, specialists and administrators – to review the new competencies, and ensure that measurable social and emotional learning objectives are front and center in the curriculum.
Last June, five students at Westbridge Academy stepped up to accept a diploma and stepped out into the world. Each one of these young people left Westbridge with plans for the future, and the connections needed to make them happen.
